Health Care

HealthCare

Maari Ma Primary Health Care Service provides a quality service to Aboriginal community of far western NSW.

We have been providing health care for 14 years and currently 24 people work at the Service.

ANY INDIGENOUS PERSON CAN USE OUR SERVICE

The clinic

Maari Ma Primary Health Care Service is open between 9am and 5pm each week day.

Clients requiring care outside these hours should call (8080 1333) or go straight to the local hospital.

The team consists of Aboriginal health workers, doctors, nurses, administration staff and transportation officers.

It is not always possible to see the doctor of your choice for urgent matters although requests for particular staff will be accommodated where possible.

Home visits can be arranged for regular clients for routine care like a diabetes care plan. Talk with your health worker about this.

Telephone calls

All the staff can be contacted by phone. If the person you want is not available please leave a message and they will call you back as soon as they can.

Come and see us ...... its free!

When you see someone at Maari Ma it is FREE - it won't cost you anything.

If you need medicine it will cost $2 if you have a pension or health card and its $3 for everyone else.

If you have had blood or urine taken make sure you sign the Medicare form. Make sure that your number is right on the form because if you don't, you might get a bill in the post.

Make an appointment now!

Maari Ma Primary Health Care Service runs a booked appointment system. Most appointments are for 15 minutes, but if you ask for a longer time (30 minutes) or the doctor might ask you to book a 'long appointment' next time.

Phone 8082 9777 to make an appointment

Transport is available to and from the clinic - just ask when you make your appointment.

If you are coming to the clinic for something the doctor has to fill out a form for (like Workcover or Centrelink) make sure you tell the Practice Administration staff so you have enough time booked.

Every day there is a clinic where you don't have to make an appointment, although you will have to wait your turn - and this might be a long time.

Urgent cases will be seen as a priority.

Test results

We encourage you to return to the clinic to get your test results. If you cannot come back, call the clinic and speak with a health worker. They will tell you what to do. If the Doctor thinks your results are urgent we will contact you either by phone or in person.

Visiting services

The health team might suggest you see other health workers who come to the clinic, for example the early childhood nurse, dietitian, women's health nurse or one of the specialist doctors.

Speak with the Practice Administration staff if you need an appointment.

There are some services we don't provide, like home based disability services and home based intensive care. We can, however, put you  in touch with people who do provide this service. If you or someone you know needs this then ask the Practice Administration team for assistance.

Your health information

Your medial record is a confidential document. We have electronic medical records. We keep your information secure and ensure that it is only available to authorised staff.
